AFC Bournemouth have submitted plans to expand their stadium, currently the smallest arena in the Premier League.
AFC Bournemouth have submitted a full planning application for the redevelopment and expansion of Vitality Stadium, moving the Premier League club into the next phase of a project designed to increase capacity and modernise the venue. The proposal follows the council’s earlier approval of ‘enabling works’ and starts a formal consultation period during February, with the application lodged with Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole Council. The club confirmed the submission, stating: “We can confirm our formal submission of planning application. This is for a redeveloped, purpose-built stadium designed to support AFCB’s ambition.” A planning note accompanying the submission describes the scheme as “integral to the club’s ambition to become a top performing Premier League club.” AFC Bournemouth have previously outlined an intended expansion from just over 11,000 seats to around 20,200, with the work expected to be phased to limit disruption. The club’s published stadium update material sets out an expansion plan and includes FAQs for supporters around capacity and timelines. The enabling works approval is designed to prepare the site for the wider stadium build, including ground and infrastructure changes that support the later construction programme. The timing and delivery plan remain subject to the planning process and any conditions attached by the council, but the submission moves the project into the formal assessment stage and opens the door to public feedback during the consultation window.
