Birmingham City will work with Veolia as the Club’s Official Sustainability Partner to focus on environmental responsibility, community impact, and long-term regeneration as it plans a new stadium in the city.
Birmingham City have appointed Veolia as the club’s official sustainability partner, with the agreement designed to embed environmental planning into the development of the Blues’ proposed Sports Quarter project.The Championship club said the partnership will focus on environmental responsibility, community impact and long-term regeneration, with both organisations expected to work together on programmes aimed at supporter engagement and local education.Birmingham City chief executive Jeremy Dale said: “As we look ahead to the development of the Sports Quarter, it’s vital that sustainability, innovation, and community impact are built into our plans from the very beginning.“Veolia brings world-class expertise and a strong alignment with our values, and together we have a real opportunity to create meaningful initiatives that benefit our supporters, inspire local communities, and deliver long-term positive change.”Veolia UK and Ireland chief executive Gavin Graveson said the company would support the club’s wider ambitions in Birmingham. He said: “This partnership is an incredible opportunity to come together and make meaningful, sustainable change, for the club, its supporters and the wider community.“As Birmingham City’s sustainability partner, we’re proud to bring our expertise in resource management, smart city innovation and local energy loops to support their ambitious plans for the club and the region.”The club have positioned the partnership as a platform for early engagement, with sustainability and environmental best practice expected to be built into planning from the outset. Birmingham City said the relationship is intended to grow in scale and ambition over time, aligned with progress on the Sports Quarter development and beyond.The Sports Quarter is centred on proposals for a new stadium and wider mixed-use regeneration in east Birmingham. Concept plans previously released by the club include a 62,000-capacity venue with 12 chimney-form towers referencing the city’s brickworks heritage, and a design featuring a retractable roof and moveable pitch to support a wider year-round events calendar.Birmingham City have also set out ambitions for high-performance training facilities as part of the wider development, with the stadium project dubbed ‘The Birmingham City Powerhouse’. The club has stated its aim is to complete the new ground in time for the start of the 2030–31 season.
