CAF sanctions Senegal and Morocco over AFCON final incidents

CAF’s Disciplinary Board has imposed sanctions on the Senegal FA (FSF), the Morocco FA (FRMF) and named players and officials following incidents during the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 final.

Senegal manager Pape Thiaw has been fined $100,000 and banned for five games after the chaotic scenes during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco. Players Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were each suspended for two official CAF matches. CAF said the case concerned breaches of its Disciplinary Code linked to conduct during the final, including behaviour towards match officials and issues involving supporters and match operations.CAF also fined the FSF US$300,000 for the “improper conduct” of its supporters and a further US$300,000 for the “unsporting conduct” of its players and technical staff. The FSF was additionally fined US$15,000 after five players were cautioned in the match. For Morocco, CAF suspended Achraf Hakimi for two official CAF matches, with one match suspended for one year from the date of the decision.Ismaël Saibari was suspended for three official CAF matches and fined US$100,000. CAF also fined the FRMF US$200,000 for the “inappropriate behaviour” of the stadium’s ball boys, US$100,000 for national team players and technical staff invading the VAR review area and obstructing the referee’s work, and US$15,000 for the use of lasers by supporters. CAF said the Disciplinary Board also rejected a protest lodged by the FRMF relating to alleged violations by the FSF of Articles 82 and 84 of the Africa Cup of Nations regulations.
