Sportpark Stadion Frankfurt (SSF) has launched a Europe-wide tender for general planning services for the proposed multifunctional arena next to Frankfurt’s stadium site, marking the latest step in the city’s long-running arena project.The City of Frankfurt said the tender covers baseline planning and preliminary planning work intended to establish the conceptual and functional foundations of the project and provide a robust basis for the next decisions, with the contract award scheduled for July 2026.Frankfurt said the planned arena is intended to strengthen professional indoor sport in the city, with the project expected to create long-term infrastructure, commercial and competitive benefits for basketball side Skyliners and ice hockey club Löwen Frankfurt.The city also said the venue is being designed for flexible use across sport, culture and entertainment events at national and international level.Frankfurt mayor Mike Josef said: “With the publication of the tender, we are taking the next consistent step for the future of Frankfurt as a sports and cultural location. "The multifunctional arena will be a central building block for the further development of our city – economically, socially and culturally. We are creating a place that brings people together and has international appeal.”SSF managing director Moritz Schneider said: “The tender for the general planner marks the transition from strategic preparation to the concrete planning phase. "Our ambition is to develop an arena that meets the requirements of modern professional sport while also serving as a versatile event venue for Frankfurt and the region.”The move pushes the project into a more detailed planning phase and is a significant milestone for a development with implications for venue supply, event hosting capacity and the wider sports and live entertainment economy in Frankfurt.
