The UK government has appointed five new non-executive directors to the Independent Football Regulator ahead of the body taking on its statutory powers.

The UK government has appointed five non-executive directors to the Independent Football Regulator ahead of the body taking on its statutory role overseeing the financial sustainability and governance of professional men’s football in England.The Secretary of State , Lisa Nandy MP, has appointed Mark McCafferty, Kevin Miles OBE, Justine Roberts CBE, Tara Warren and Dr Linda Yueh CBE as non-executive directors for five-year terms running from 18 February 2026 to 17 February 2031.The new non-executives will join chair David Kogan OBE, with Dame Helen Stephenson and Simon Levine also already appointed to the board as non-executive directors.The appointments include Miles, the chief executive of the Football Supporters’ Association, and Warren, who previously held senior roles at West Ham United including work on the club’s move to the former Olympic Stadium and later leadership of West Ham United Women.McCafferty is chair of Warwickshire County Cricket Club and has previously served as chief executive of Premiership Rugby, while Roberts is the founder and executive chair of Mumsnet and has previously been a non-executive director of the English Football League.Yueh is an economist and lawyer who holds a range of board and advisory roles, including as a non-executive director at FTSE 100 companies, and is chair-designate of The Royal Parks.The government said the non-executive roles carry remuneration of £20,800 per year for a time commitment of one day a week, with the appointments made under the Governance Code on Public Appointments.More than 250 candidates applied for board roles, according to the regulator, which became fully independent last year.The IFR will also publish a draft State of the Game Report later this year, examining the financial health of English football.
