Inter Miami have named the east stand of their new Nu Stadium after Lionel Messi, making him one of the rare active players in global sport to have a stand at his home ground dedicated in his honour ahead of the venue's April 4 inaugural match.
Inter Miami have unveiled the Leo Messi Stand at Nu Stadium, dedicating the east stand of their new Miami Freedom Park venue to the club's captain and record scorer ahead of its inaugural MLS regular season match on April 4.Messi arrived in South Florida in the summer of 2023 and has since led the club to its first four trophies – the 2023 Leagues Cup, the 2024 MLS Supporters' Shield, the 2025 Eastern Conference title and the 2025 MLS Cup.He has scored 82 goals and registered 53 assists in 94 appearances across all competitions, establishing himself as Inter Miami's all-time leader in both categories. In 2025, Messi won the MLS Golden Boot with 29 goals and was named Landon Donovan MLS Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive season, becoming the first player in league history to win the award in back-to-back years. The Leo Messi Stand spans sections 117–121 in the lower bowl and sections 217–223 in the upper bowl, incorporated within Nu Stadium's unified seating bowl. The 38-year-old is the most decorated player in the history of the sport, holding a record eight Ballon d'Or titles alongside 46 team trophies including the 2022 FIFA World Cup, four UEFA Champions League titles and three FIFA Club World Cups.Inter Miami described the naming as a departure from the tradition of retrospective tributes, saying the honour was born from "what is happening right now" rather than from nostalgia or the closing of a career chapter. The club confirmed that fans in the stand will receive unspecified "surprise and delight" activations as part of a dedicated matchday experience.Nu Stadium, part of the wider Miami Freedom Park development, is Inter Miami's permanent home following years at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.Season tickets for all 17 MLS regular season home matches are available from US$54 per match.
