Gerard Piqué's small-sided football competition has taken significant investment as it plans expansion in the US and acquisitions to launch the event around the world.
Kings League have raised US$63m in a new investment round led by Alignment Growth as the seven-a-side, creator-led competition accelerates international expansion and develops new formats beyond its core football product. Kings League said the round included participation from existing shareholders and will be used to scale the Kings League and Queens League platforms globally, expand into new markets and build out its media and product roadmap. Chief executive Djamel Agaoua said the funding will support faster growth and potential dealmaking. “We have proven that our model works at scale. This funding allows us to accelerate our expansion, continue innovating the format and explore strategic M&A opportunities that support our long-term vision.” Alignment Growth co-founder and managing partner Kevin Tsujihara positioned the investment as a bet on digital-first sports properties that behave more like entertainment platforms than traditional leagues: “Our investment in Kings League reflects our conviction that digitally native sports properties are uniquely positioned to capture powerful, long-term growth as younger audiences shift how they discover and engage with sports.” Kings League was founded by Gerard Piqué and launched in Spain in 2023 with a short-form match format and 'gamified' rules built for social and streaming audiences. Kings League said teams and competitions are led by high-profile streamers, creators and football figures, and the competition has been designed around fast-paced, unpredictable matches that translate into live and clipped digital viewing. The organisation said the new capital will back further geographic rollouts and new content and product initiatives, including plans to deepen its presence in existing territories while entering new markets.Kings League also framed the round as support for building multi-platform IP from its competitions. The investment is the latest sign of private capital moving into creator-driven sports formats that sit between football, entertainment and social media, with Kings League positioning itself as a scalable template that can be replicated across countries and potentially across sports.
