Joan Laporta has been re-elected as president of FC Barcelona, securing another mandate to continue the club’s financial restructuring and commercial rebuild after several years of economic pressure.
Joan Laporta has been re-elected as president of FC Barcelona, extending his leadership of the LaLiga club as they continue efforts to stabilise finances and complete the redevelopment of their stadium infrastructure.Laporta secured another term following the club’s presidential vote, reinforcing his position after first returning to the role in 2021 during a period of acute financial stress at Barcelona.Laporta secured more than 68% of the vote and will begin his second consecutive term on 1 July, having beaten his opponent, Victor Font, who secured almost 30% of the remaining votes.Laporta said: “We have stabilised the club financially and restored its competitiveness. Now we must consolidate this recovery and continue strengthening Barcelona as a global sporting institution."The result itself is conclusive and it gives us a lot of strength - so much strength that it will make us unstoppable."Barcelona’s leadership transition comes as the club continues to manage a heavy debt load and oversee the redevelopment of the Spotify Camp Nou under the wider ‘Espai Barça’ infrastructure project. The stadium redevelopment is central to Barcelona’s long-term revenue strategy, with the project expected to significantly increase matchday income through expanded hospitality, commercial space and enhanced fan facilities once completed.Laporta’s administration has also overseen several financial measures designed to restore liquidity and comply with La Liga financial regulations, including asset sales and commercial partnerships.During his previous term, Barcelona activated a series of so-called economic levers, selling portions of future media and commercial revenues to raise immediate capital as the club attempted to rebuild its squad while managing financial constraints.Laporta said: “We took difficult decisions to save the club and return it to the elite level it deserves. The work is not finished, but the direction is clear and we will continue moving forward together."We will keep defending Barcelona against everything and everyone. The upcoming years will be thrilling. They will be the best of our lives."Barcelona have also prioritised sporting stability during the rebuilding phase, appointing former club midfielder Xavi Hernández as head coach in 2021 as part of a broader effort to reconnect the club’s football identity with its long-term strategy.Laporta’s re-election ensures continuity in governance as Barcelona pursue revenue growth through stadium redevelopment, global commercial expansion and improved sporting performance in domestic and European competitions.
