Lazio have submitted proposals to the municipality of Rome as they seek to renovate the Stadio Flaminio and establish it as their new home.

Lazio have submitted documentation to Rome’s city authorities as the Serie A club push forward with plans to redevelop the Stadio Flaminio and turn the long-closed venue into their future arena.Rome’s Department for Major Events, Sport, Tourism and Fashion received the dossier on Monday, starting the formal assessment phase that will determine whether the project can proceed through the capital’s approvals process. In a municipal update, Rome said officials will now begin a technical review of the submission before any next procedural steps are agreed. The statement said: “In the coming days, the competent municipal offices will analyse and evaluate carefully the dossier received in order to officially start the project process.”The move is a key milestone for Lazio, who have been working on a plan to modernise and expand the Pier Luigi Nervi-designed stadium, which has been closed for more than a decade. The scheme under discussion would transform Flaminio into a football-specific ground, with a capacity of just over 50,000, and is positioned as a long-term solution to the club’s stadium strategy in the city.Rome mayor Roberto Gualtieri has previously framed the project as an opportunity for the club to secure a dedicated home while bringing a dormant asset back into use. Speaking earlier in the process, he said: “It’s an important step. We will receive it and assess it with great care, attention and interest, with the spirit of hoping that Lazio also equip themselves with their own stadium."President Lotito and his team showed us the pre-feasibility study for the renovation of the Flaminio stadium project. A beautiful project, it will have to be examined in detail, but we are happy that it has been announced that the proposal will be formally launched, thus triggering the administrative procedure."The Flaminio project has also been linked to Italy’s wider stadium modernisation push as preparations ramp up for Euro 2032, which Italy will co-host with Turkey. While host venue selections for that tournament remain a separate process, clubs and cities have increasingly framed stadium projects through the lens of UEFA compliance, crowd experience and commercial uplift. No timeline for a final decision on Lazio’s submission has been confirmed by the city.
