Rangers have made board changes that remove Paraag Marathe and Eugene Schneur from directorship roles, in a move designed to protect the club’s eligibility for UEFA competitions under multi-club ownership rules.

Rangers have moved to adjust their board structure after discussions around UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules, with vice-chairman Paraag Marathe and director Eugene Schneur stepping down from roles connected to the Ibrox club.Reports in Scotland suggest that Marathe has left Rangers’ board alongside Schneur, with the changes linked to the possibility of both Rangers and Leeds United qualifying for the same European competition.UK Companies House filings show a termination of Marathe’s directorship at The Rangers Football Club Limited from February 27, alongside an appointment filing the same day for Fraser John Thornton as a director from February 25.Separate Companies House officer records list Schneur as having resigned as a director of Rangers International Football Club Limited from February 27.The underlying issue is UEFA’s integrity rules, which prevent clubs within the same ownership group from competing in the same UEFA club competition. The Crystal Palace and Olympique Lyonnais case last year put renewed scrutiny on how multi-club groups structure governance and control, after UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body ruled the clubs were too closely linked and reassigned Palace to the Europa Conference League. In that case, UEFA’s deadline for resolving potential conflicts was March 1, a timing point that has since become a reference for clubs seeking to avoid late-season disruption if they qualify for Europe. For Rangers, the changes are understood to be precautionary and do not alter the ownership model established when Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises took control in 2025, with STV noting the “overall blueprint” remains unchanged.
