Spain’s football federation president Rafael Louzán claims the 2030 FIFA World Cup final will be staged in Spain, despite Morocco building a 115,000-seat stadium near Casablanca designed to strengthen its own bid for the showpiece match.

Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) President Rafael Louzan has said that Spain will stage the final of the 2030 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco. Speaking at an event organised by the Madrid Sports Press Association late on Monday, Louzán said Spain’s track record of delivering major sporting events put it in pole position to host the tournament’s finale. “Spain has proven its organisational capacity over many years… It will be the leader of the 2030 World Cup and the final of that World Cup will be held here,” he said. Louzán did not name a stadium, but Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu and Barcelona’s rebuilt Camp Nou were referenced as the leading Spanish candidates after recent refurbishment work at both venues.Morocco, one of the tournament’s three main co-hosts alongside Spain and Portugal, wants the final in Casablanca at the Grand Stade Hassan II, which is under construction north of the city. The venue is expected to hold 115,000 spectators and forms part of a wider Moroccan infrastructure programme that includes a high-speed rail expansion reported at $10 billion. In comments that sharpened the political edge around the decision, Louzán suggested Morocco’s case had been weakened by organisational issues during the recent Africa Cup of Nations, saying scenes from the tournament had “damage[d] the image of world football”.FIFA has the final say on where the match will be played and has previously signalled it is too early to make a call, noting that the final venue for the 2026 World Cup was only announced around two years before the tournament. The 2030 World Cup will be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with three centenary celebration matches scheduled in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.
