Telefónica has agreed a sponsorship deal with the Royal Spanish Football Federation that makes Movistar the official telecoms partner of Spain’s national teams until December 2030.

Telefónica and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have signed a strategic sponsorship agreement covering Spain’s men’s and women’s senior teams, the under-21s and youth sides until December 2030.The partnership will be activated commercially under Telefónica’s Movistar brand, positioning Movistar as the federation’s official telecommunications provider and tying the relationship to fan-facing digital products and content.Marc Murtra, Telefónica’s chairman, said: “We want to be the best gateway for citizens to access the digital world, and that includes offering the best content. To achieve this, we need to be present in the moments when millions of people come together to share unique digital experiences. Matches involving the Spanish national team are among those defining moments.“Supporting our national team until 2030 reinforces both our ambition and our commitment to these shared experiences, and reflects our support for Spanish talent.”The RFEF said the agreement links football, technology and digital experiences, as viewing and engagement continue to shift across TV, streaming, mobile and social platforms alongside real-time data services.Rafael Louzán, president of the RFEF, said: “It is wonderful news to be able to welcome Telefónica as a new sponsor of the Spanish national teams. This partnership is not merely a commercial agreement, but a union between the company and the sport that promotes the ‘Made in Spain’ brand across the globe.“That we are moving forward together is the best news at this time of stability and sporting success, with the senior national teams ranked number one in the FIFA rankings.”Telefónica said the deal is designed to support a pipeline of new initiatives combining technology, entertainment and sport, with Movistar Plus+ expected to play a central role in distributing content linked to the national teams. The companies positioned the timing around a dense calendar of major tournaments, including the 2026 men’s World Cup, the 2027 Women’s World Cup, UEFA EURO 2028 and the 2030 World Cup, which is scheduled to be staged partly in Spain.Beyond content, the agreement includes plans to develop exclusive behind-the-scenes access during training camps and competitions, as well as matchday customer experiences and campaigns tied to major international events.Telefónica also said the partnership will take in grassroots and the federated football community, with a focus on deploying technology and innovation, while highlighting values such as youth development and support for women’s football.
