John Textor has been reappointed as a director at the key UK holding company used for Eagle Football’s multi-club structure, days after filings showed his directorship had been terminated. The move underlines an ongoing governance dispute between Textor and lender Ares over control of the Eagle group.
John Textor has returned to the board of Eagle Football Holdings Bidco Limited, the vehicle that holds the shares and legal rights across the Eagle multi-club group, according to updated UK Companies House filings.Companies House records show Textor’s appointment as a director of Eagle Football Holdings Bidco with effect from January 29, with the appointment filing dated February 25. That came a day after a separate filing recorded the termination of his earlier appointment as a director, effective from January 27.In a public statement dated February 24, Textor framed the sequence of filings as part of a wider governance dispute and said: “The dispute between Ares and Mr. Textor, regarding control of the board of Eagle Bidco, will continue.“Mr. Textor, as the sole director of the sole shareholder of Eagle Football Holdings Bidco Limited disputes any appointment by Ares Capital Corp to the Board of Directors of Eagle Bidco.”Eagle Football Holdings Bidco sits within a wider structure that includes Olympique Lyonnais, Botafogo and RWD Molenbeek, with Companies House describing Bidco as the relevant legal-rights holding entity for the group. The board changes follow a period of heightened tension between Textor and Ares, which provided more than €400 million in loans connected largely to Eagle’s 2022 acquisition of Lyon, according to reporting based on the Companies House filings and related disclosures.Textor remains listed as a director at Eagle Football Holdings Limited and Eagle Football Holdings Midco Limited, both UK entities higher in the group structure, according to current officer listings.
